The City of Conway is accepting resumes for the position of Lead Telecommunicator Level 1 working in the Conway Emergency Operations Center, a division of the Conway Police Department. Position responsibilities include but are not limited to supervision and coordination of activities of workers engaged in receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching personnel and equipment, and providing pre-arrival instructions to callers.


  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area, e.g., data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc., plus 2 years related experience and/or training, and 7 to 11 months related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year customer service experience or experience working with the public.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the CritiCall Pre-Employment Testing Suite.
  • Intermediate Experience: 10-Key, Database, Spreadsheet, Word Processing/Typing
  • Basic Experience: Accounting, Alphanumeric Data Entry, Payroll Systems, Presentation/PowerPoint
  • Able to perform several mission critical tasks simultaneously and accurately.
  • Able to make critical decisions and exercise good judgment effectively and quickly.
  • Able to understand and independently apply complex information to a variety of circumstances.
  • Must have valid AR driver’s license & clean driving record.
  • No felony convictions
  • Must be certified through the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy as a Basic Telecommunicator (or equivalent).
  • Must have and maintain certification through the Arkansas Crime Information Center.
  • Must be able to remain calm & think clearly in stressful situations.
  • Must be willing to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating 12-hour shift.

Duties include handling high stress emergency 911 calls and dispatching the appropriate police, fire and animal welfare units.

Experience with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Arkansas Crime Information Center certification is a plus.

Previous work experience as a dispatcher and previous Police/Fire/EMS experience is preferred, but not required.
