Call for Artist Interactive Art Installation

Request For Proposal

The Conway Public Art Board and the Conway Downtown Partnership requests proposals from artists for the design, implementation, and installation of a public art sculpture for the sidewalk at corner of Oak and Front Street.

This project is in cooperation with the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program Public Art Grant the Conway Public Art Board. The Public Art Board is commissioned by the Mayor of the City of Conway and its mission is to encourage an artistic Conway through the creation, acquisition, and/or display of community-centered art.

Artist(s) should present and develop concepts, oversee production, and complete installation of an artwork, which will simultaneously meet the artistic, technical, and public safety goals specified below.

This is an interactive art installation where the art should foster public interaction with the piece and inspire creativity. This is a permanent installation.

Project Goals

The project should achieve the following goals:

  • Public safety
  • Meets ADA regulations
  • Volume requirements
  • Visually appealing
  • Appropriate
  • Educational/Outreach opportunities
  • Generate and continue interest and awareness of public art in Conway
  • Create an interactive installation for people of all ages
  • Enhance an area in the Conway Commercial Historic District.
  • Should reflect the history of the neighborhood and community

Once the artist(s) is selected, they/them will work with the Conway Public Art Board, City Parks Department, other city officials, and project stakeholders to select final design(s) based on his/her proposal.

Budget

The total budget for the project is $20,000. Artists need to submit a budget that covers the direct cost of the artwork, design fees, all labor and materials, costs of fabrication, transportation, travel, documentation and professional liability and other related costs. Installation costs for proper base, landscaping, and lighting will be the responsibility of the Public Art Board, with City of Conway approval.

Proposal Submission Requirements

The request is for pro bono conceptual development and submission of proposals.
To be considered for the project, please submit the following:

  • Cover sheet with contact information
  • Professional conceptual design
  • A written description
  • Estimated budget (that covers the direct cost of the artwork, design fees, all labor and materials, costs of fabrication, transportation, travel, documentation and professional liability, and other related costs)
  • Project timeline
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Digital portfolio

Artist(s) should pay close attention to goals listed above. Please limit your application to ten (10) pages for preliminary artistic and technical proposals.

Project Timeline

Proposals should be submitted by November 26, 2019 at 4:30pm.
Completion timeline will be determined after artist selection.
