The City of Conway will begin building the city's 25th roundabout on Monday, February 25.

The intersection of Chestnut Street and Van Ronkle Street in downtown Conway will be closed to thru traffic from Monday, February 25 to Monday, March 4.

All four phases of this infrastructure improvement project will be closed to thru traffic as a result. Businesses will remain open during this time. This project will be completed in four phases:

  1. Chestnut Street from Oak Street to Van Ronkle Street
  2. Van Ronkle Street from Chestnut Street to Harrison Street
  3. Van Ronkle Street from Chestnut Street to Front Street
  4. Mini roundabout at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Van Ronkle Street / Markham Street

Street superintendent Jacob Reynolds plans to quickly re-open the intersection.

“The weather forecast shows no rain next week so we’re going to start ripping asphalt and excavating new elevations,” said Reynolds. “Pending any unforeseen underground issues, our crew will work to re-open the intersection to thru traffic in 7 days."
Officials with the Office of the Mayor and the Conway Transportation Department have thoughtfully considered feedback from business owners.

“We’re getting an early start on the mini roundabout (Phase IV) in an effort to re-open Chestnut Street as quickly as possible,” said city spokesman Bobby M. Kelly III. “The city would like to thank everyone for their continued patience and consideration. We understand this project hasn’t been easy on everyone."

This infrastructure improvement project will include:

  • new asphalt
  • new mini roundabout
  • new storm drainage infrastructure
  • new street lighting
  • new streetscaping
  • new parallel parking
  • new brick crosswalks

Keeping business owners up-to-date will continue to be an ongoing priority for Mayor Bart Castleberry.

As the transportation department continues their work, the Office of the Mayor will coordinate with the Conway Downtown Partnership to communicate developments that may impact business owners and their customers. Mayor Castleberry strongly encourages business owners to continue reaching out with questions or feedback.
