Kinley Trail
Conway’s original walking/biking trail spans 3.1 miles along Tucker Creek, running from Tyler Street to Hogan Lane.
Tucker Creek begins in north central Conway and runs southwest into Lollie Bottoms, flowing into the Tupelo Bayou which empties into the Arkansas River.
The creek is named after Daniel Franklin “Frank” Tucker (1873-1933). He was a rural mail carrier, a farmer, and a well-respected Faulkner County resident in the early 1900’s. In 1895, Tucker married Louisa Catherine Glenn and they had five children. The Tuckers owned a large amount of property through which the creek ran and lived in a house on the corner of Hubbard Street and College Avenue.
In 2017, this original trail section along Tucker Creek was named the Kinley Trail, in honor of former Conway mayor, David G. “Dave” Kinley, who served from 1987-1998. It was under Mayor Kinley’s leadership that the city’s trail system was started in the 1990’s.
Stone Dam Creek Trail
Stone Dam Creek originates on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas and flows southeasterly, eventually emptying into Lake Conway.
UCA built a short portion of the trail along the creek on their campus, up to Dave Ward Drive, where the City of Conway took over.
In 2019, the Dave Ward Pedestrian Bridge was completed, spanning over the highway to safely connect the trail sections. In May 2021, the overpass was dedicated to Joe White (1943-2020), a former member of the UCA Board of Trustees, for his exemplary service, dedication, and commitment to the City of Conway.
An underpass was completed in 2022 going under South Donaghey Avenue as the trail was extended to South German Lane.
