The City of Conway is accepting applications for a Collector I position within the Sanitation Department. This position plays a critical role in the operations of citywide sanitation services and supports curbside collections, industrial collections, and recycling operations. This position may include lifting and emptying heavy waste containers, cleaning and disinfecting vehicles, collection areas, and collection containers; roadside litter and debris collection; and assisting with multi-material sorting and processing within the material recovery facility. Employees are expected to maintain safety and professionalism in all aspects of daily work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect curbside waste and/or recycling in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ensure spilled or dropped debris is properly cleaned up
  • Sort waste from recyclables according to department quality standards
  • Assist in keeping trucks, wash bays, work areas, and containers clean and sanitized
  • Assist in unloading processes at landfill and material recovery facilities
  • Maintain the safety of immediate work areas and surrounding areas
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with customers and the public
  • Refer customer questions or concerns to supervisors as appropriate
  • Collect roadside litter and debris as assigned
  • Maintain employee uniforms and required personal protective equipment
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Zero (0) to six (6) months of related experience and/or training preferred
  • Ability to read and understand simple instructions and correspondence
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to follow multi-step instructions and standardized procedures
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arkansas Driver’s License
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must maintain regular attendance
  • Must be dependable, safety-conscious, and willing to work in various weather conditions

 

Working Conditions:

  • Indoor and outdoor work environments with potentially hazardous conditions
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing
  • Frequent lifting and moving of heavy materials and containers
  • Exposure to weather conditions, loud environments, moving equipment, and airborne particles
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
